Pastor / First Lady

 
 
Florence Lugreta Maye is a native of Richmond, Virginia, the daughter of Joseph and Magesta Johnson. She has four siblings: Jerome, Joseph Jr., Joyce Rooks, and Cathy.

 

She attended Refuge Church in Richmond, Virginia, under the leadership of Apostle William L. Bonner. She served as church secretary until 1974, when she married James A. Maye and moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut.
 
In 1976, her husband received an appointment to become pastor of Pilgrim Church of Christ in Cleveland, Ohio. After a brief transition, Mother Maye and their then-young son, Andre, joined Pastor Maye in Cleveland.
 
She continued her education and received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts at John Carroll University. She has been a dedicated and innovative elementary school teacher in the Warrensville Heights, Ohio, School District for more than 20 years. She retired from full-time teaching in 2013.
 
As First Lady of Pilgrim, she has served as a Sunday School teacher; vice president and president of the Women’s Council; president of the Ministers and Deacons Wives Guild; Vacation Bible School director; and a member of the Budget Committee, Family and Friends Committee, and Evangelistic Committee. Her love for women of God has led her to take on leadership positions, serving as state and international president of the Ministers and Deacons Wives Guild. She is also a motivational speaker.
 
She recently spearheaded the church’s successful 80th Anniversary Celebration that took place November 1-3, 2013. She presently oversees the Women’s Ministry at Pilgrim.
 
In her leisure time, she likes to read, cook, and landscape her home. Mother Maye is a devoted wife and mother. In addition to Andre, she and her husband are the parents of Alana, Javon, and Keonya. The family lives in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
